A useful base becomes a better trip when you make time for the city itself: lanes around Via del Prione, civic museums, a waterfront pause and a meal before the next excursion.

A real city between the railway and the gulf
Stay near a workable route to La Spezia Centrale if most days begin by train. Choose the lower centre for evening walks and food, allowing time to reach the station. A waterfront address is not automatically close to the railway. Check the last bus or seasonal boat separately for Porto Venere and Lerici.

Times are planning estimates. Check opening hours and transport, leave time for a meal, and shorten the day when needed.

One art museum anchors the day, with the pedestrian centre, a named meal stop and the public waterfront around it.

A hilltop archaeological visit followed by lunch and a sweet pause in the lower centre. Allow the climb as part of the day.
Open itineraryLa Spezia Centrale is the main rail starting point for Cinque Terre trips. Waterfront boat departures require a separate walk or local connection. Porto Venere has no railway station; Lerici also needs a road or seasonal sea connection. Use ATC for local buses and the ferry operator’s current timetable, with a land return if boats are cancelled.
Do not confuse La Spezia Centrale with a boat pier or assume a rail ticket covers the final gulf connection. Check the exact departure point, return service and date. Confirm museum opening days and changes directly before setting out.
